A new dining destination is set to open its doors in Scranton, Pennsylvania, blending the beloved atmosphere of Chili’s with iconic references to the popular TV series “The Office.” The restaurant, dubbed the “Scranton Branch,” aims to appeal to fans of both Chili’s and the fictional Dunder Mifflin paper company. This unique location will feature nostalgic decor reminiscent of early 2000s Chili’s aesthetics, including chalk art murals and vintage-themed artwork. Additionally, guests can enjoy a reintroduced menu item, the “Awesome Blossom,” which hasn’t been served at Chili’s for nearly two decades.
The concept behind this special restaurant emerged as an homage to the cultural impact that Chili’s has had over the years, particularly through its connection to the hit show “The Office.” According to George Felix, Chief Marketing Officer of Chili’s, this marks a significant moment in the brand's history, bridging real-world presence with on-screen representation. While Chili’s frequently appeared in episodes of “The Office,” it never actually had a physical location in Scranton until now. Scheduled to open on April 7th, the “Scranton Branch” will join more than 1,200 domestic locations and over 360 international sites under the Chili’s banner.
Inside the new establishment, visitors will encounter various throwback elements designed to evoke memories of the early 2000s. A highlight includes a meticulously crafted mural celebrating the era’s artistic style, alongside tiled tables adorned with classic imagery. Furthermore, the restaurant offers a dedicated photo booth replicating business lunch scenes from 2005, allowing patrons to capture their own memorable moments. These thoughtful touches aim to create an immersive experience for all who visit.
Beyond the thematic design, the menu itself holds surprises for long-time Chili’s enthusiasts. Among these is the return of the “Awesome Blossom,” a deep-fried onion dish last seen on menus approximately seventeen years ago. This culinary nod underscores Chili’s commitment to reviving cherished favorites while maintaining relevance in today’s market.
Kevin Hockman, CEO of Brinker International, introduced a strategic overhaul in 2022 aimed at reinvigorating the brand. Key components include streamlining offerings, modernizing interiors, and enhancing digital engagement. As a result, Chili’s recently reported impressive financial gains, generating $1.2 billion in revenue during the second quarter—a 30% increase compared to the same period last year. With growing popularity among both established loyalists and newer audiences discovered via social media platforms, the future looks bright for this iconic chain.
By merging pop culture allure with authentic dining experiences, the “Scranton Branch” promises not only to honor the legacy of “The Office” but also to invigorate Chili’s ongoing journey within the competitive casual dining landscape.
