The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington (GMCW) will spearhead an ambitious two-week International Choral Festival, celebrating diversity through music. This festival aims to bring communities together with daily pop-up performances across various venues in the metropolitan area, featuring renowned choirs and ensembles from across the nation.
The upcoming International Choral Festival promises to transform the DC metro area into a lively stage for choral music enthusiasts. Scheduled from May 22 to June 8, 2025, this event will feature hour-long performances each day that highlight the rich tapestry of queer choral music. GMCW's own ensembles, such as Potomac Fever, Rock Creek Singers, Seasons of Love, GenOUT Youth Chorus, and 17th Street Dance, will join forces with guest choruses from GALA Choruses network cities. Among the highlights will be the premiere of Dominick DiOrio's "Our Wildest Imaginings," dedicated to Bishop Gene V. Robinson, alongside other collaborative performances with both local and national groups.
A variety of participating choirs will gather for this monumental occasion, including notable names like 7th Son from Charlotte, Asian Rainbow Chorus from New York City, Brolo from Philadelphia, and many others. These choirs will perform at iconic locations throughout the city, such as Atlas Performing Arts Center, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Union Market, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, among numerous churches and cultural institutions. All performances are free to attend, though limited premium passes may be purchased for exclusive access.
