In an effort to bridge connections between law enforcement and the younger generation, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has teamed up with the local public school system to introduce a pioneering initiative. Known as Camp Explorer, this event aims to immerse children aged eight to twelve in interactive learning opportunities centered around public safety. By simulating deputy roles and organizing community explorations, the program seeks to educate and inspire participants while fostering trust and collaboration. With two sessions scheduled at different schools, this camp represents a significant step toward strengthening ties within the Mobile County community.

This innovative youth camp is designed to provide children with hands-on experiences that highlight the importance of public safety. Over the course of three days, attendees will be split into four groups, each tasked with assuming responsibilities akin to those of deputies. Through these activities, participants will gain valuable insights into the workings of law enforcement and its role in maintaining secure communities. Additionally, organizers have planned excursions to various local establishments and picturesque spots, allowing children to broaden their understanding of the area they live in.

The timing of the camp has been carefully coordinated to accommodate families during the summer break. The initial session is set to take place from June 10 to June 12 at Semmes Middle School. Following this, a second round of activities will occur from June 24 to June 26 at Hankins Middle School. These dates ensure that a wide range of students can participate, regardless of their location or schedule constraints.

Beyond the structured curriculum, Camp Explorer emphasizes the value of experiential learning and community engagement.
