2025-03-26

Under the leadership of newly appointed artistic director Joe Folsom, The Players Theatre Company has unveiled an exciting lineup for its upcoming 59th season. Beginning in August 2025 and concluding in July 2026, this theatrical journey will revolve around the theme of “Family Matters.” Each production is carefully selected to reflect the intricacies and profound connections within family dynamics, blending humor, emotion, and triumph. Folsom emphasizes the importance of welcoming both new artists and audiences to experience iconic tales alongside contemporary stories presented in innovative ways.

The season opens with a beloved classic, "Fiddler on the Roof," known for its universal appeal through humor and heartfelt storytelling. Following this will be "Carrie: The Musical," inspired by Stephen King’s chilling novel. As the festive period approaches, a vibrant adaptation of Charles Dickens’ "A Christmas Carol" promises joyous melodies and enchanting spirits. In the new year, "Big Fish," based on Daniel Wallace's novel and Tim Burton's celebrated film, will captivate audiences, succeeded by the legendary "Jesus Christ Superstar."

Folsom himself will direct a fresh adaptation of Anton Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard," incorporating comedic elements originally envisioned by the playwright, along with live music and dance. This spectacle aims to immerse the audience deeply into the narrative journey. Beyond the main season, two special offerings include "1776," coinciding with America's 250th anniversary, and "Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill," featuring a tribute to vocal icon Billie Holiday as part of the theatre's fundraising initiatives.

Performances generally take place at The Owen Theatre, located downtown at 225 Metcalf, with evening shows scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm. Tickets can be reserved via the box office or online. Established in 1967, The Players Theatre Company has grown significantly from its humble beginnings at Conroe High School to becoming a cornerstone of local culture at The Owen Theatre.

Audiences are invited to explore these diverse productions that celebrate familial bonds while showcasing the rich history and evolving spirit of The Players Theatre Company. With such a varied and captivating program, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy over the coming year.
