Riders like Donna Platas have reached out to KSHB 41’s Abby Dodge, expressing their concern about whether this stop will ever be back in service.Platas, who lives in Johnson County and commutes to her job in downtown Overland Park five days a week using city buses, finds herself without her usual stop near the Overland Park Farmers Market. “For those with mobility issues or those who struggle with cold days, the park and ride used to be a great option. Now, it’s a hassle,” she said.Now, Platas is eager to know how long she will have to find alternative commuting options. Josh Powers, Johnson County’s transit director, attributes the closure of the stop to the construction across the street. “We truly regret any negative impact this has on travelers. Our team is working tirelessly every day to make transit service in Johnson County as convenient and accessible as possible,” he said.Powers informed that riders have options just a short walk away from the closed bus stop. The routes that previously passed through the market are now located on either side of Metcalf. However, Platas is worried about the safety of herself and other riders on the busier Metcalf road. “We need to find another nearby location for a park and ride so that people don't have to endure temporary bus stops. It's not ideal,” she said.Powers stated that they will collaborate with the city of Overland Park to restore service at or near the market once the construction is completed. “If the city is still willing for us to use this location for a park and ride, we are definitely interested in exploring that. But with the changes to the farmers market, there might be a new location that could be suitable,” he said.For riders seeking a park and ride option, the closest alternative to the market stop is at the Mission transit center or the Oak Park Mall.
