Holiday Transportation Alert in Washington, D.C.

For those planning to visit Washington, D.C. this weekend or engage in last-minute shopping, 7News On Your Side brings an important transportation notice. Especially for those coming from Northern Virginia, there are significant Metro holiday closures that could lead to delays on the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines due to essential scheduled track construction. Starting Friday, December 20th, the transit agency will close a few stations downtown.
Closures and Shuttles
Farragut West, McPherson Square, and the lower level of Metro Center will be shut down from December 20th to 30th. Free shuttle buses will operate between Foggy Bottom and Federal Triangle to ensure the smooth movement of riders. On December 27th, the Federal Triangle, Smithsonian, and the lower level of L’Enfant Plaza will close for construction until December 30th. Shuttles will also run between Foggy Bottom and Federal Center SW. Metro plans to have all stations back open before the ball drops on New Year's Eve, December 31st, for those looking to ring in the new year in the district.Green and Yellow Line Service Enhancements
To prepare for the track work and upgrades, Metro will be boosting service on the Green and Yellow lines. This week, the transit system is also introducing new bus routes in certain areas. These new bus services and other changes are part of the preparations for the launch of the “Better Bus Network” in 2025 and to increase capacity to accommodate D.C.
