Creative Duo Appointed to Lead Innovation at Capitol Music Group
2025-05-06

A new chapter unfolds at Capitol Music Group (CMG) with the appointment of Sara Nix and Joe Mortimer as co-leaders of creative endeavors. Based out of the legendary Capitol Tower in Hollywood, this dynamic partnership promises to redefine artistic expression within the storied label. Nix brings an extensive background in global production, having previously served as executive producer at Partizan, a company renowned for its innovative approach under the guidance of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michel Gondry. Over her career, she has collaborated with illustrious names such as Pharrell Williams and Billie Eilish, contributing to groundbreaking music videos, documentaries, and films for major brands worldwide. Originating her journey in Amsterdam, Nix's international experience positions her uniquely to elevate CMG’s creative output.

Complementing Nix’s expertise is Mortimer, who transitions from his role as creative director at Astralwerks since 2018. During his tenure, he spearheaded high-profile campaigns for artists like Marshmello and Illenium, while also engaging with iconic acts including The Beatles and Katy Perry through Capitol. His work on Troye Sivan’s Grammy-nominated campaign exemplifies his ability to craft impactful narratives. Prior to relocating to London, Mortimer honed his skills as an art director, collaborating with top-tier talents such as Jungle and Bob Moses. Additionally, in 2025, he co-initiated the California Picture Project, a charitable initiative that rallied over 160 artists to support wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles. Together, Nix and Mortimer bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to their new roles, ready to shape the future of CMG.

Inspiring collaboration lies at the heart of CMG's vision, as reflected by the recent restructuring of Universal Music Group’s leadership. With Tom March leading as chair/CEO and Lilia Parsa serving as president, the organization aims to foster an environment where creativity thrives. By welcoming Sara Nix and Joe Mortimer aboard, CMG underscores its commitment to pushing boundaries and empowering artists to achieve unparalleled heights. This strategic move not only strengthens the label’s creative foundation but also serves as a testament to the power of unity and shared purpose in driving progress within the music industry.
