Electronic Rhythms Set to Enliven Allianz Field Amid Noise Concerns
2025-05-14

An upcoming music extravaganza is set to transform the parking areas outside Allianz Field into a vibrant hub of electronic dance music next month. This event, known as the Breakaway Music Festival, promises a dynamic auditory experience with gradually increasing sound levels over two days. The festival aims to balance entertainment with consideration for local residents who previously expressed concerns about noise levels during last year's event.

In response to community feedback, the St. Paul City Council has approved a revised plan that incorporates more controlled sound management strategies. Under this new arrangement, sound limits will progressively rise throughout each evening's performances, starting at 94 decibels in the early afternoon and culminating at 103 decibels by late evening. Event organizers have committed to repositioning speakers towards the soccer stadium to utilize it as a natural sound barrier, alongside employing city staff to conduct ongoing sound checks during the festival.

Despite some council members' reservations about the elevated sound thresholds, the festival is expected to attract nearly 25,000 attendees eager to immerse themselves in world-class DJ sets. Proponents highlight the positive economic impact brought by such events, including increased tourism and vibrancy to the area. While challenges remain regarding noise control, the Breakaway Music Festival demonstrates a collaborative approach between organizers and the city to create an inclusive environment where diverse interests can coexist harmoniously.
