In a heartwarming gesture of community support, a local automotive dealership has provided a much-needed vehicle to a young mother striving for independence. On a recent Monday afternoon, Mark Hebert, in collaboration with the National Auto Dealers Association (NADA), presented a refurbished 2013 Ford Taurus to Harmony Alexander at Hebert’s Town & Country Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Shreveport.
Harmony Alexander, a dedicated single parent and ambitious college student, now has the means to pursue her aspirations more effectively. The 21-year-old mother of an 8-month-old son is balancing her responsibilities as a veterinary technician and pursuing higher education. With reliable transportation, she can access greater opportunities and depend less on others for assistance. “Owning a vehicle will significantly enhance our lives by opening doors to new possibilities,” she expressed, reflecting on her journey toward becoming a responsible adult.
The Vehicles for Change program selected Alexander to receive this invaluable gift. Since its inception in 1999, the initiative has donated over 8,000 vehicles to deserving families. Alexander will contribute $950 towards the car, financed through a local bank over a year. Additionally, she will benefit from a six-month or 6,000-mile warranty. Hebert not only donated the car but also covered all refurbishment costs. "A dependable vehicle can transform lives," Hebert remarked. "It empowers families to meet daily needs and unlock pathways to success. We are proud to support such transformative efforts."
This act of generosity underscores the importance of community support in fostering self-reliance and personal growth. By providing essential resources like reliable transportation, individuals like Harmony can better navigate their paths to achieving their goals and building a brighter future for themselves and their children.
