On Tuesday, December 3rd, a significant event took place in Cortland, New York. Guthrie officially cut the ribbon on its brand new state-of-the-art health care facility. This remarkable campus is set to open its doors to patients on Monday, December 9th. Spanning an impressive 32,000 square feet, it initially offers a wide range of services including imaging, lab work, walk-in care, and expanded primary care. The primary care clinic within this campus is named in honor of Deborah and Stephen Geibel.

Expanding Services in 2025

Starting from the spring of 2025, this new space will welcome multiple specialty care services. Orthopedics, general surgery, plastic surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and pain management are among the specialties that will be available. Guthrie's continuous efforts to expand care in rural communities are further emphasized by the establishment of a tele-medicine hub. This hub will enhance virtual access to Guthrie experts from across the health system, ensuring that rural residents have better access to quality medical care.

Primary Care's Importance

Marie Darling, the Senior Director of the Guthrie Medical Group in the Northern Region, emphasizes the significance of a primary care provider. She states that the relationship built with a primary care provider is crucial in achieving health goals. It serves as the gateway to preventative screenings and specialty care services needed along the way. Guthrie is actively recruiting more primary care providers to the region to support the community's engagement in their overall health.

Edmund Sabanegh, the President and CEO of The Guthrie Clinic, highlights the importance of investing in areas where there is a need. He believes that by doing so, they can address the challenges of accessing health care in rural communities. Through generous gifts like Nick's, Guthrie is able to set the standard for rural health care across the nation. They deliver innovative, compassionate, and accessible medical services tailored to the unique needs of rural communities.

He mentions that consolidating existing Guthrie medical services into one building, along with the requisite support services, is a major step in making The Guthrie Clinic a leader in the Cortland community. They have chosen to redevelop a vacant property that holds fond memories for the community, bringing new life to the former JM Murray Center.
