Henderson's Downtown Revival: High-Rise Project Restarted After Delays
2025-01-14

A significant milestone has been reached in Henderson’s urban development as a prominent high-rise apartment complex is set to resume construction. The Water Mark, located on Water Street, faced an extended period of inactivity that raised concerns among local business owners and residents. This mixed-use building, initially unveiled in 2021, was envisioned to breathe new energy into the downtown area. However, the project encountered financial difficulties in late 2023, leading to a halt in progress. Mikel Conrad, a nearby photography studio owner, expressed worries about the negative impact of prolonged delays on the neighborhood's appearance and vibrancy.

Construction on the seven-story structure had nearly reached completion when it encountered substantial financial challenges, accumulating nearly $16 million in debt from legal claims against the property. The dispute between the developer, Strada Development Group, and the contractor, Gillett Construction, further complicated matters. Despite these setbacks, recent updates indicate that work has recommenced as of January 13th, with expectations for full completion by the end of April. This resumption signals renewed hope for revitalizing the area and fulfilling the original vision of enhancing community life and attracting more visitors to Henderson’s downtown.

The restart of the Water Mark project brings a wave of optimism to the community. It not only promises to resolve lingering issues but also underscores the resilience and determination of local developers to overcome obstacles. As the building nears completion, it will likely serve as a catalyst for further economic growth and urban renewal in the region. The successful completion of this project can inspire confidence in future developments, fostering a thriving and dynamic city center that benefits all residents and businesses alike.
