Honoring Champions and Community: Celebrations in Youngstown
2025-05-20

Youngstown is set to celebrate its rich cultural and athletic heritage with a series of events honoring local legends. Under the Market Street Bridge, five boxing champions will be celebrated at the Youngstown Walk of Fame ceremony on July 5. This event marks the induction of Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini, Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik, Harry "Dirty Harry" Arroyo, Jeff "Prime Time" Lampkin, and Greg "The Flea" Richardson into the city's prestigious Walk of Fame. Their contributions have left an indelible mark on the city’s sports history.

In addition to the induction ceremony, the community will enjoy a vibrant celebration afterward. The Food Trucks and Fireworks festival will follow immediately, offering delicious food from various vendors and a spectacular fireworks display. Notably, this year's Walk of Fame event will introduce custom-made club jackets for the honored athletes, crafted by Private Stash Atelier, a downtown boutique renowned for its craftsmanship. Mayor Jamael Tito Brown will preside over the ceremony, which includes free parking at the Covelli Centre lot, ensuring accessibility for all attendees.

Beyond athletic achievements, Youngstown continues to foster creativity and inclusivity within its community. Starting in June, Grizzly Bean Coffee Shop will feature artwork from individuals with developmental disabilities, clients of Gateways to Better Living, celebrating their talents through coffee cup sleeves. Meanwhile, the Steel Museum offers free admission to military personnel and their families as part of the Blue Star Museums initiative, highlighting the region’s industrial and military support during global conflicts. These initiatives underscore Youngstown's commitment to recognizing diverse contributions and fostering a sense of unity and pride among its residents.

Celebrating local talent, promoting inclusivity, and acknowledging service are essential components of building a thriving community. By honoring athletes, artists, and military members, Youngstown demonstrates its dedication to celebrating achievements that enrich society. Through events like the Walk of Fame ceremony, the introduction of artistic collaborations, and programs supporting military families, the city exemplifies how communities can come together to uplift one another and create a brighter future.
