Aiming to build upon its pioneering success, Intuitive Machines is set to embark on an ambitious second mission to the lunar surface. The company, known for achieving the first commercial moon landing last year, will launch its Nova-C lander, affectionately named Athena, no earlier than February 26th. This endeavor, part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program, will utilize a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket to propel Athena toward the moon. Over the course of approximately one week, Athena will journey through space before attempting a touchdown near the lunar South Pole around March 6th.

This mission holds significant scientific value as Athena carries a suite of NASA instruments designed for groundbreaking research. Among these tools are a drill and a mass spectrometer, which will conduct one of the first on-site demonstrations of resource utilization on the moon.
