2025-05-02

A groundbreaking opportunity has arisen for young performers in South Florida, as the Broward Center's education department takes on a pioneering role in bringing a new junior adaptation of a musical to life. Under the guidance of Tammy Holder, Artist-In-Residence at the Broward Center, an ensemble of talented students from various schools across the region will stage a pilot version of "Once Upon a One More Time Jr." This exciting venture showcases the creativity and dedication of young artists while offering valuable feedback to Music Theater International (MTI), a leading theatrical licensing agency.

This unique production brings together 39 students spanning grades 5 through 12, hailing from both public and private institutions throughout South Florida. Among them are four neurodiverse participants from The Friendship Journey, contributing their distinctive talents to this collaborative effort. Partnering with Nova Southeastern University’s Tech Theater program for set construction adds another layer of innovation to the project. As one of six national groups chosen by MTI to provide input on the script, music, and staging elements, these students play a crucial role in shaping the final Junior show kit that will be distributed worldwide.

The debut of "Once Upon a One More Time Jr." marks not only a celebration of pop culture but also a testament to the transformative power of arts education. Featuring reimagined fairy tales underscored by Britney Spears' iconic hits, this vibrant production empowers its young cast members to explore themes of self-discovery and empowerment. Through Holder's leadership and mentorship, the participants gain invaluable experience preparing them for future careers in performing arts. Their achievements highlight how creative expression can inspire confidence and foster community spirit among aspiring artists everywhere.
