A pair of standout athletes from Razor’s Edge Boxing Club are set to compete on a national stage after excelling in regional competitions. Mabel Ornelas, a recent transplant to Idaho Falls, and Saul Juarez, hailing from Victor, have both earned their places at the prestigious event. Over the weekend, Ornelas showcased her skills by defeating a formidable opponent from Utah during a regional tournament held at the Fullmer Legacy Center in South Jordan. Her performance marked a significant milestone in her boxing journey, which began just over a year ago.

In another remarkable display, Saul Juarez demonstrated his resilience and determination by engaging in two consecutive fights. On the first day, he triumphed over an opponent from Utah, and the following day, he emerged victorious against a competitor from Montana. His efforts were so impressive that they earned him the distinction of "Fight of the Night." According to Holly Gregson, the head coach of Razor’s Edge Boxing Club, advancing through two matches is a rare feat, especially in smaller, rural regions. Both athletes will now represent their region in the upcoming national tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma, scheduled for May 12-17. Juarez, who has previously participated in two national tournaments as a youth, is excited about this opportunity, as it marks his debut in the adult division.

The journey to the national championship involves facing competitors in various divisions within their respective weight classes. Ornelas, whose passion for boxing dates back eight years, moved to Idaho Falls last year to pursue higher education. Her regional victory not only secured her a spot in the national tournament but also earned her a scholarship to assist with college tuition. Both athletes express gratitude towards Coach Gregson for her unwavering commitment to nurturing talent within the club.
