The annual Legacy of Giving (LoG) Music Festival, a major charitable event that raised funds for various causes, has announced its conclusion after years of successful operations. Simultaneously, residents are bracing for an increase in gas prices starting July 1 due to adjustments in the motor fuel tax. Since its inception in 2017 following the discontinuation of the SOHO Music Festival, the LoG Music Festival became a cornerstone of Springfield's cultural scene. As a 501c3 charitable organization, it leveraged the power of music to support numerous local charities. In its most recent iteration in 2024, over 60 bands performed across five stages, captivating audiences with diverse genres ranging from jazz to rock. Alongside the musical performances, a vibrant vendor fair and eating concourse added to the festival's appeal, raising over $60,000 for ten deserving charities, including the Old State Capitol Foundation and MERCY Communities.

Despite its success, organizers have decided to bring the festival to a close, citing the need for reflection and exploration of new avenues to continue supporting charitable causes. This decision marks the fourth downtown festival to conclude or go on hiatus in the past three years, joining others such as Abe Fest, Old Capitol Blues & BBQ, and the Springfield Oyster & Beer (SOB) Festival. While the physical manifestation of the festival may be ending, the team remains committed to making a difference through alternative means.

Simultaneously, Illinois residents face another change with the impending rise in gas prices. Effective July 1, the motor fuel tax will increase, impacting daily commutes and travel plans. This adjustment underscores broader fiscal policies affecting everyday life in the state.
