The Minot State men’s basketball team is set to enhance its coaching lineup with the addition of a seasoned collegiate head coach. Matt Murken, the Beavers' head basketball coach, has announced Rylee Hernandez as the latest member of the coaching staff. With nearly a decade of experience leading junior college teams, Hernandez arrives in the Magic City after four successful years at Seward County Community College. Before this, he spent five seasons at Williston State College, where his leadership guided the Tetons to significant achievements, including a District XI Championship and an appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament.
Hernandez's journey into coaching began while he was still playing for NCAA Division III Lakeland University in Wisconsin, where he served as both team captain and a junior varsity assistant men's basketball coach. This early immersion laid the groundwork for his future success. Upon graduation, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Sports Studies from Lakeland University. His familiarity with the region stems from his eight-year tenure at Williston State College, which Coach Murken believes will greatly benefit Minot State's program through Hernandez's exceptional communication and recruiting skills.
Before stepping into the role of head coach at Williston State, Hernandez honed his craft as an assistant coach for three seasons. Originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, Hernandez attended Roseville Area High School before beginning his collegiate career at Vermilion Community College. His diverse background and extensive experience make him a valuable asset to the Beavers’ basketball program.
Hernandez has already commenced his responsibilities with the Beaver basketball team. His arrival marks a promising chapter for Minot State, bringing not only a wealth of knowledge but also a deep understanding of regional dynamics that will undoubtedly elevate the program's performance and reputation.
