Red Devils Baseball Team to Temporarily Relocate Home Games
2025-03-27

The St. Clairsville baseball team is set to embark on a new chapter as they prepare for their home opener, albeit in an unconventional location. Due to ongoing developments at the St. Clairsville Jr. Sports Complex, the Red Devils will temporarily relocate their home games to the newly renovated Premiere Field at North Market Street. This transition stems from a significant infrastructure project involving artificial turf installation at Memorial Park, funded by a $1 million grant and matched by the city. According to Athletic Director Justin Clifford, this collaboration between the school district and the park board aims to enhance sports facilities within the community. Despite the temporary change, anticipation remains high for both players and fans alike.

In a strategic move aimed at improving local sports amenities, the St. Clairsville-Richland City school district partnered with the Parks District Board to revamp the infield at Memorial Park. The initiative gained momentum when a substantial grant was secured by the city for enhancing the sports complex. Clifford explained that the project benefited significantly from the presence of Forever Lawn, the primary contractor based in Canfield, who extended a favorable deal for installing artificial turf at Memorial Park. Although winter weather conditions posed challenges, the ultimate goal is to complete work at Memorial Park once the current projects conclude. Clifford emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating that despite adverse conditions, cooperation among all parties has ensured progress.

This year marks a pivotal moment for the St. Clairsville Parks and Recreation Department, which successfully obtained a grant through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The grant required a 50/50 funding match and was fully awarded, enabling the department to undertake a $1 million project. With assistance from the National Park Service, the transformation of Memorial Park’s infield into an all-turf area exemplifies the benefits of collaborative efforts. Clifford noted that while the winter season slowed progress, the long-term vision includes six fields equipped with all-turf infields within St. Clairsville, providing top-tier facilities for athletes.

Looking ahead, Clifford expressed optimism about the Red Devils returning to Memorial Park once renovations are finalized. He praised the facility's design, highlighting its bowl-like structure and newly installed dugouts, making it an ideal venue for baseball enthusiasts. Furthermore, he assured that the dimensions at the Jr. Sports Complex closely resemble those at Memorial Park, ensuring consistent gameplay experiences. As the Red Devils prepare to host Martins Ferry on April 2, excitement builds around this season filled with adjustments and opportunities for growth.

As the renovations progress, the Red Devils remain committed to maintaining their competitive edge despite logistical challenges. Their first game at the new venue promises to be a memorable occasion, symbolizing resilience and adaptability. Fans can look forward to witnessing exceptional performances while appreciating the enhanced facilities that underscore St. Clairsville's dedication to nurturing athletic talent. Ultimately, this period of transition highlights the power of community partnerships in elevating local sports culture.
