Shakespeare Meets Nature in East Tawas

During the vibrant spring season, the small town of East Tawas prepares to host an extraordinary cultural event. Located at 401 Newman St., the Tawas Bay Playhouse has become a hub of excitement as auditions commenced on Tuesday, April 1, and continued the following day. Children aged five to ten have the opportunity to audition for roles such as fairies, sprites, and nymphs from 5-6 p.m. Following this, older participants, ranging from eleven years old to adults, will vie for lead roles and ensemble parts starting at 6:30 p.m., concluding around 7:30 p.m.

The main performances are scheduled for Friday, June 27, Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29, all taking place at Dewey Durant Park. Inspired by the renowned “Shakespeare in the Arb” series in Ann Arbor, this adaptation allows spectators to move from scene to scene, enhancing their immersive experience. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or portable chairs, ensuring comfort while enjoying the two-hour play under the open sky.

Under the direction of Neil Peterson, a University of Michigan alumnus with extensive experience in Shakespearean productions, the performance is tailored specifically for WE Players’ audience. Suzan Nemeth, the visionary founder and executive director of WE Players, Inc., expressed her gratitude for the unwavering support from the City of East Tawas and its parks department.

Tickets for this unforgettable event will soon be available online at weplayers.ludus.com.
