South Dakota's Youth Talent Takes Center Stage in Mitchell
2025-05-07

Young musicians and vocalists from various schools are set to showcase their skills at a prestigious event this spring. On the afternoon of May 10, the South Dakota All-State Jazz Band and Show Choir will present their performances at the Mitchell High School Performing Arts Center. This gathering brings together talented students who have earned their place through rigorous selection processes. Among the participants is Joshua Machado, playing the tenor saxophone, while Ashlyn Reynolds, Emma Plamp, Max Hart, and Rebekah Strong contribute their exceptional talents to different ensembles.

Beyond individual accomplishments, the event highlights collaboration among young artists. Nine students from Mitchell High School will join forces as part of the All-State Show Choir. Their voices harmonize across soprano, alto, tenor, and bass sections, creating a rich tapestry of sound. Additionally, Tripp-Delmont’s Lillian Niles adds her voice to the choir. Guiding these performances are renowned guest conductors such as Dawn Clement, Jason Fabus, Michael Phillip Mossman, Heath Weber, and Mike Weaver, each bringing extensive experience in music education and performance.

The decision by the SDHSAA Board of Directors to establish Mitchell High School's Performing Arts Center as the recurring venue for this event underscores its significance. As the fourth annual edition of the combined jazz band and show choir presentation, it promises an inspiring display of youthful talent. Tickets are available online or at the venue starting at 3:30 p.m., with prices reflecting the value placed on supporting emerging artists. Such events not only celebrate individual achievements but also foster community spirit and appreciation for the arts, reminding us all of the transformative power of music and collaboration.
