State and Local Support Bolster Ankeny Food Manufacturer's Expansion Plans
2025-03-24

A prominent food manufacturer in Ankeny, recognized for its national and international product distribution, is set to receive significant financial assistance from both the city and state of Iowa. Mrs. Clark’s Foods, operating under MCF Operating LLC, plans to construct a new 90,000-square-foot manufacturing facility adjacent to its existing site. With an estimated budget of $25.7 million, this project aims to enhance juice production capabilities and create 12 new jobs over the next three years. The company has secured $708,000 in state tax credits alongside up to $360,000 in local tax increment financing rebates. This marks another milestone in the company's growth trajectory, following previous expansions supported by similar incentives.

The decision by the Iowa Economic Development Authority Board on March 21 to approve substantial tax credits reflects the state's commitment to fostering economic development within the food production sector. Mrs. Clark’s Foods specializes in producing and packaging mayonnaise, salad dressings, juices, barbecue sauces, and other condiments that are widely distributed across the globe. To fund this ambitious expansion, the company intends to secure a bank loan. Demolition of the current structure at the chosen site will occur before July's end, paving the way for construction to commence in August. It is anticipated that the entire process, including equipment installation, will conclude by December 2026.

In February 2025, Mrs. Clark’s Foods employed 128 individuals in Ankeny. Historically, the organization has benefited from various financial incentives designed to encourage growth. In 2020 alone, it received over $322,500 from the Iowa Economic Development Authority to support a prior expansion valued at more than $9.2 million. That endeavor resulted in one new job creation while enhancing operations involving 19 additional roles.

This latest round of investment underscores not only the company's strategic vision but also reinforces its role as a key contributor to regional employment opportunities and economic prosperity. By expanding its facilities, Mrs. Clark’s Foods aims to meet increasing consumer demands efficiently while maintaining high-quality standards. Such initiatives exemplify collaborative efforts between private enterprises and public entities striving towards shared objectives of sustainable growth and community enrichment.
