Summer Arts Program Opens New Doors for Young Performers
2025-03-24

A groundbreaking initiative is set to inspire young minds through the performing arts. Arts for Learning (A4L) has unveiled its Lewis Arts Studio Performing Arts Summer Program, designed to engage students in grades 4-8 with a vibrant exploration of dance, theater, and creative movement. This program aims to create an enriching atmosphere where participants can delve into the world of performance fundamentals, such as storytelling, stage presence, and choreography.

Inspiring creativity lies at the heart of this summer experience. Running from June 9 to July 25, the program will take place at the Sanctuary of the Arts at St. Mary’s, conveniently located near the visual arts building. Through a blend of structured activities and imaginative play, students will not only enhance their artistic abilities but also boost their confidence. The culmination of the program will feature closing performances, allowing participants to showcase their achievements to family and friends.

The launch of this program reflects a commitment to fostering creativity and empowerment among youth. As Ivy S. Bennett, the program director at Arts for Learning, emphasizes, the goal is to provide a nurturing space where children can discover their voices and develop essential skills. Since its inception in 2009 as a visual arts initiative, the program has continuously expanded, thanks to partnerships with organizations like the Jonathan D + Mark C. Lewis Foundation. Their ongoing support ensures that more students gain access to high-quality mentorship and resources. By embracing the transformative power of the arts, the program empowers young individuals to grow both personally and artistically.
