Summer Melodies Unfold at Long's Park Amphitheater
2025-04-16

An eagerly anticipated season of open-air performances is set to grace the lawns of Long’s Park, inviting music enthusiasts to revel in a diverse array of sounds. Beginning on June 1 and continuing every Sunday until August 17, this summer series promises an unforgettable auditory experience for all ages. Under the leadership of Kristin Chronister, who recently assumed the role of president of the Long’s Park Amphitheater Foundation board, these concerts are poised to resonate with both newcomers and long-time fans.

Chronister brings a wealth of experience in both musical and business realms, having previously worked in health insurance and employment agencies before dedicating herself fully to her passion for music education and performance. Her vision for the organization underscores the importance of accessible cultural events: "If we want our children to enjoy such moments throughout their lives, it's crucial that we maintain these traditions." With this ethos, the foundation continues its mission to provide free concerts to the community, largely supported by proceeds from the annual Long’s Park Art Festival scheduled for the end of August.

The lineup for this year showcases an eclectic mix of genres and artists. From David Uosikkinen’s In The Pocket, bringing a tribute to Philadelphia's rich musical history, to international acts like Skerryvore from Scotland and Alsarah and the Nubatones offering East African retro-pop, each week offers something unique. Special highlights include the return of the U.S. Army Band, Pershing’s Own, with fireworks and drones lighting up the sky on July 4th weekend, and the closing act by the Harrisburg Jazz Collective. To kick things off early, a special pre-series concert featuring Tuck Ryan’s Philadelphia 4 will take place on May 14, blending tunes with local craft beer offerings.

Making music freely available strengthens communities through shared experiences and fosters a deeper appreciation for the arts among people of all backgrounds. Such initiatives remind us that art not only entertains but also unites, creating lasting memories under starlit skies.
