A serious traffic incident occurred on Wednesday evening in Duchouquet Township, resulting in significant injuries and property damage. According to reports from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Wapakoneta post, a local resident was critically injured when her vehicle failed to yield at an intersection, leading to a collision with another car. The accident resulted in the vehicle overturning and crashing into a former church building. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene, where they attended to the victims and secured the area.

The incident took place at approximately 5:12 p.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of Mudsock Road and Buckland Holden Road. Christina Mathewson, a 65-year-old woman from Wapakoneta, was driving south on Mudsock Road when her vehicle did not stop at the intersection. Consequently, it collided with a Buick Enclave driven by Ted Rupert, a 73-year-old man from the same city. Following the impact, Mathewson's vehicle veered off the road, flipped over, and struck a decommissioned church, embedding itself within the structure. Meanwhile, Rupert’s vehicle came to rest on the southwest side of the intersection.

Emergency personnel quickly arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance. Mathewson sustained severe injuries and was transported via ambulance to Lima Memorial Health System for immediate treatment. Rupert and his passenger, Lynette Rupert, both aged 76, were also taken to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center but suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The crash is currently under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Wapakoneta post. Multiple agencies, including Auglaize County Emergency Management, Cridersville Fire Department, Uniopolis Fire Department, and Miller Auto Inc., provided support at the site.
