Vineyard School Teams Dominate Across Multiple Sports
2025-05-07

The Vineyard school sports teams have been making significant strides this season, with several teams maintaining undefeated records and showcasing exceptional talent. The boys' tennis team has particularly stood out, securing victories in all nine matches without losing a single individual singles or doubles game. Meanwhile, the girls' tennis team remains undefeated as well, sitting at second place in the division three power rankings. In addition to these successes, the girls' golf team is on the brink of qualifying for the state tournament in their debut year as a varsity sport. Other teams, including sailing, baseball, lacrosse, and track and field, are also demonstrating commendable performances despite facing tough competition.

In an impressive display of skill and determination, the Vineyard boys' tennis team has not only maintained a perfect record but has also swept every match against formidable opponents such as Falmouth, Monomoy, and Sandwich. Monomoy, boasting ten wins this year, fell twice to the Vineyarders, who dominated both encounters. Zak Potter led the charge with a decisive victory in the first singles match against the Sharks, while Caleb Dubin and Kert Kleeman secured wins in the second and third singles respectively. The doubles pairs of Tommy Flynn and Kyle Levy, along with Nate Walsh and Henry Wansiewicz, further solidified the team's dominance by clinching crucial victories.

Similarly, the girls' tennis team has proven to be a force to reckon with, overcoming challenging situations to secure vital wins. Against Monomoy, both doubles pairs rose to the occasion, ensuring a team victory after losing the second and third singles matches. Laina Dubin showcased her prowess by winning the first singles match convincingly. Zoe Treitman and Leah Thompson, alongside Ella Moran and Clementine Zeender, delivered under pressure to secure important points for the team.

Beyond tennis, the girls' golf team has exceeded expectations, thanks in large part to the leadership of senior Piper Blau. Recent victories over Falmouth and Nauset highlight their potential, with Piper Blau and Jocie Smith leading the way in crucial matchups. Coach Mike Joyce expressed pride in his young squad, which includes players from eighth through twelfth grade, noting their remarkable progress since the start of the season.

In other sports, the sailing team continues to perform admirably, currently holding third place in the Cape and Islands League standings. Their recent win against Hingham in a four-team meet underscores their resilience and strategic acumen. The baseball team, although suffering defeats against Falmouth and Foxborough, demonstrated their capabilities by defeating Monomoy post-spring break, with Eli Bryant pitching a complete game. Meanwhile, the boys' and girls' lacrosse teams face challenges but remain committed to improving as they prepare for upcoming matches.

The track and field team recently triumphed in several events during a meet against Nauset, with standout performances from the boys' 4x400 relay team and Kaniel Morgan in discus. On the girls' side, Madison Mello excelled in shot put and discus, contributing significantly to the team's overall success. As the season progresses, all Vineyard teams aim to build on their achievements and continue pushing boundaries in their respective sports.
