Two emerging finance professionals are set to embark on promising careers after excelling in their university's student-led investment fund program. Matthew Brown and Hannah Hunt, both graduating with degrees in finance, have secured positions at prestigious financial institutions thanks to their leadership roles in the Kennesaw State University Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF). Their journey exemplifies how hands-on experience can pave the way for success.
Brown, who served as the CEO of SMIF, will join Colony Bank in Savannah, Georgia, for a two-year rotational analyst program. This opportunity will provide him with comprehensive exposure to various facets of banking operations. Meanwhile, Hunt, the COO of SMIF, has accepted an analyst role at JPMorgan Chase & Co.'s Atlanta office. Their achievements reflect the impact of SMIF, a program that simulates real-world portfolio management and investing scenarios. Since its inception in 2010, SMIF has grown its initial $100,000 investment to nearly half a million dollars, demonstrating the students' ability to manage and grow assets effectively.
Both individuals credit their involvement in SMIF for shaping their professional growth. Professor Govind Hariharan, chair of the SMIF board, praised Brown for his calm and efficient leadership style, qualities that earned him admiration from peers and faculty alike. Hunt, known for her vibrant personality and dedication, played multiple roles within the organization, including human resources director and vice president of marketing. Her efforts significantly boosted membership numbers and enhanced the group’s digital presence. Beyond SMIF, both students engaged actively in campus life, further enriching their university experience.
The path to success often begins with opportunities that challenge and inspire. Through their commitment to learning and leadership, Brown and Hunt transformed their educational experiences into stepping stones for thriving careers. Their stories underscore the value of mentorship, perseverance, and seizing every chance to grow. As they step into their new roles, these young leaders carry forward the lessons learned at Kennesaw State University, ready to make meaningful contributions to their respective organizations and the broader financial community.
