Extended Healthcare Initiative in the Greater Bay Area
2025-04-01

An important advancement in cross-border healthcare has been announced by the Health Bureau, as the Pilot Scheme for Supporting Hospital Authority Patients in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is set to continue until March 31, 2026. This initiative aims to provide financial assistance for consultations at selected medical facilities within the region. The University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital (HKU-SZH) remains a key participant in this program, offering specialized services tailored to meet the needs of eligible individuals.

A new enhancement measure is being introduced to further refine the support offered to patients. Under this plan, participants must attend consultations in departments that align with the Hospital Authority's outpatient categories. While outpatient care continues to be covered, other services such as episodic illnesses, inpatient treatments, and emergency care are excluded from the subsidy. Individuals wishing to take advantage of this opportunity can do so by scheduling appointments via established channels and completing necessary documentation to confirm their participation.

This extension signifies a commitment to improving regional healthcare accessibility and fostering collaboration among medical institutions. By enabling more patients to access affordable medical consultations closer to home, it promotes convenience and continuity of care. Furthermore, the inclusion of additional measures ensures that the program evolves to better serve its beneficiaries, reflecting an ongoing dedication to public health and welfare improvement across borders.
