On a historic Easter Sunday, the Florida A&M women's tennis team achieved a remarkable victory. The Rattlers showcased their exceptional skills by defeating the highly favored Jackson State Tigers with a score of 4-2 in New Orleans’ City Park Tennis Center. This win marks FAMU’s second championship title in the Southwestern Athletic Conference over the past three years, reinforcing their reputation as a formidable force in collegiate sports.
The journey to the championship was anything but straightforward. The Rattlers first had to overcome Southern University, ranked sixth, in a hard-fought match on April 18. Following this success, they faced off against the reigning champions, Alabama State, where they demonstrated resilience and determination, prevailing with a narrow 4-3 margin. These victories set the stage for their ultimate showdown in the SWAC Tournament final.
This championship not only adds another prestigious accolade to FAMU's long list of achievements but also signifies an important milestone. With this win, the university has now accumulated 200 conference titles across all sports programs. Additionally, alongside the men's golf team's recent triumph, the Rattlers have secured an automatic entry into the NCAA Tournament scheduled for early May. Their dedication and perseverance serve as an inspiration, proving that consistent effort can lead to extraordinary results.
