Experiencing a remarkable musical journey, Sheryl Moser transitioned from her alma mater in Rexburg to becoming a key member of the renowned Tabernacle Choir. After obtaining her music diploma and gaining extensive experience as part of BYU-Idaho’s Collegiate Singers, Moser successfully auditioned for the prestigious choir, where she has spent the past decade honing her craft. Her initial performance with the choir brought back cherished memories when 45 students from BYU-Idaho echoed through the historic Tabernacle during a special Sunday event. The collaboration featured two exclusive performances conducted by Randall Kempton, followed by a grand finale with the entire ensemble led by Mack Wilberg.
The opportunity provided invaluable insights into professional music performance. According to Kempton, rehearsals with the Tabernacle Choir exemplify professionalism and focus, offering students an unparalleled learning experience. Many participants, primarily music majors, benefit significantly from such exposure. David Djambov, specializing in organ performance, emphasized the significance of performing under pressure while collaborating with world-class musicians like Matt Goldberg. Thomas Farr, studying music education, shared how meticulously refining their pieces prepared them for precise timing required in live broadcasts. Additionally, prior to this engagement, the singers delivered a vibrant concert at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Salt Lake City, featuring diverse musical elements including solos, improvisations, and unique instrument accompaniments.
Musical excellence extends beyond the stage, as evidenced by the group’s impromptu performances during their return trip to Rexburg. They entertained congregations at various church gatherings, simulating the demanding schedule of professional touring artists. This intensive twenty-four-hour period offered practical preparation for aspiring performers. Such experiences not only enhance technical skills but also instill a deep appreciation for teamwork and dedication. By embracing challenges and opportunities, these young musicians demonstrate that passion combined with discipline can lead to extraordinary achievements, inspiring others to pursue their dreams with similar vigor and commitment.
