Experience Unmatched Creativity and Comfort in One Venue
The Artistry Behind the Design
Upon entering Common Good, visitors are greeted with an ambiance that seamlessly blends modern aesthetics with rustic charm. The interior design showcases custom woodwork that adorns the 13-foot bar, shelving units, and bench seating areas within the café. Polished concrete floors provide a cooling contrast to the warm wooden elements, creating a harmonious balance between industrial and organic materials. Sheetrock walls on one side and exposed brick on the other further enhance this duality, making the space feel both inviting and sophisticated. The attention to detail extends beyond the visual elements. A pristine, all-white Mahlkönig grinder, Puqpress auto-tamper, and La Marzocco GB5 espresso machine are strategically placed near the entrance, allowing guests to witness the art of coffee preparation firsthand. Adjacent to this setup is a DJ station equipped with turntables embedded into the wooden bar, illuminated by classic green bankers’ lamps. Vintage hi-fi systems and an extensive collection of vinyl records occupy the custom-built shelving behind the bar, adding a nostalgic touch to the modern décor.Café Culture Meets Vinyl Vibes
Common Good founder Chris Bermudez envisions the café as more than just a place for coffee; it’s a creative sanctuary where music lovers can gather. Inspired by multifaceted businesses in Mexico City and South Korea, Bermudez sought to create something unique for Dallas. “I wanted to bring together different elements that make sense together,” he explains. “The combination of a coffee shop, listening room, and salon creates a dynamic environment that encourages interaction and relaxation.”The café features a carefully curated menu designed by Jesse Nava, a seasoned barista with years of experience in the Lone Star specialty coffee scene. Leveraging coffees roasted by Lemma Coffee Roasters, Nava offers a selection of classic espresso and drip options alongside signature drinks like the Cardamom Rose latte, Mexican Mocha, and Pistachio Matcha. Each beverage is crafted using locally sourced natural syrups and fresh ingredients, ensuring quality and authenticity. Bermudez emphasizes the importance of keeping the menu concise yet impactful. “We focus on doing a few things really well rather than offering a long list of mediocre options,” he says.Salon Services with a Creative Twist
Transitioning from the café area, a glass wall reveals the full-service salon, where the atmosphere shifts to a brighter, more vibrant setting. Green upholstery on the couches and chairs complements the marble-topped tables in the café, maintaining a cohesive color palette throughout the space. Stylists at Common Good operate independently, booking their own clients, which allows for a personalized and flexible service model. “The stylists already have their clientele, so we don’t rely on walk-ins,” notes Bermudez. “This arrangement ensures a steady flow of customers while allowing us to focus on enhancing the overall experience in the café.”Vision for Expansion and Innovation
With 17 years of experience as a hairdresser and a passion for creating multifaceted venues, Bermudez has ambitious plans for the future. He envisions opening additional Common Good locations, each with its own unique twist. “We could explore combining a barbershop with a coffee shop or even integrate Pilates classes into the mix,” he muses. “The possibilities are endless, but the core idea remains the same: to create spaces that inspire creativity and foster community.”Common Good stands as a testament to Bermudez’s vision of blending diverse elements into a cohesive and inviting environment. Located at 1619 N. Hall St. in Dallas, this innovative hub offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in a world where coffee, music, and style converge.
