Various categories of stalls are set to be auctioned, offering diverse business opportunities. The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) has declared that an open bidding process will commence in April for over 640 stalls spread across 46 public markets. These stalls cater to a wide range of products and services, including prepared meals, fresh produce, electronic gadgets, and pet supplies among others. This initiative aims to invigorate local commerce by making these spaces accessible to new entrepreneurs.
The auctions will follow a structured timeline with specific dates assigned to different regions. Kowloon's events kick off on April 8th, featuring morning and afternoon sessions catering to various markets. Following this, the New Territories and Hong Kong Island auctions will occur between April 9th and 15th, each accommodating numerous stalls available for lease. Additionally, leftover stalls not sold during these events will be offered for rent on April 22nd based on a first-come, first-served principle. Bidders should note that tenancy contracts granted through successful bids are fixed at three years without any renewal options.
Through these initiatives, the government seeks to promote economic vitality while ensuring equitable access to commercial spaces. By varying stall prices according to factors such as duration of vacancy, size, and location, authorities aim to make leasing more affordable for potential tenants. Furthermore, strict measures have been put in place to maintain transparency throughout the bidding process, involving oversight from law enforcement agencies. Such efforts underscore a commitment towards fostering fair business practices within public marketplaces, encouraging community development and entrepreneurship.
