2025-02-24

The community of Gloverville, South Carolina, is mourning the loss of two young lives following a devastating house fire that occurred early Monday morning. Located near Gloverville Park, the incident left neighbors and first responders heartbroken. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office reported that the blaze broke out around 12:50 a.m. at a residence on Pine Street, leading to tragic consequences for the family residing there.

While four children and their mother were rushed to nearby medical facilities, the situation took a turn for the worse. According to Coroner Darryl Ables, 6-year-old Serahya Jordan succumbed to her injuries at 1:57 a.m., followed by her 8-year-old sister Deandolyn Jordan shortly after at 2 a.m. Another sibling was taken to Doctors Hospital in critical condition, while the mother and fourth child were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Neighbors recounted assisting emergency crews in rescue efforts, highlighting the community's immediate response to the crisis.

This heartbreaking event marks the fourth fire-related fatality in South Carolina within a week. Over the weekend, a 77-year-old man named Hubert Adams lost his life in a house fire in Orangeburg County. Similarly, last Sunday, a 73-year-old woman identified as Lois Miller perished due to smoke inhalation and thermal burns in Jackson. These incidents underscore the urgent need for enhanced fire safety measures and awareness across the state.

In the wake of these tragedies, it is crucial to reflect on the importance of fire prevention and preparedness. Communities must come together to support one another, ensuring that homes are equipped with functioning smoke detectors and families have evacuation plans in place. By fostering a culture of vigilance and care, we can honor the memory of those lost and work towards preventing future tragedies.
