University of Nevada, Reno Athletics Teams Up for Campus Food Drive
2025-02-09

The University of Nevada, Reno's athletics department has joined forces with Pack Provisions, the university’s on-campus food pantry, to launch a new initiative aimed at supporting students facing food insecurity. This collaboration seeks to harness the power of community spirit to make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.

From February 10th through the 14th, the "Pack the Pantry" campaign will be in full swing. The primary goal is to gather essential items that will help alleviate food and hygiene shortages among students, staff, and faculty. Stephanie Rempe, the Athletic Director, expressed enthusiasm about this venture, highlighting the importance of using their platform to raise awareness and collect necessary supplies. The drive underscores the commitment of the athletics community to fostering a supportive environment where no one's academic or athletic aspirations are compromised due to lack of basic necessities.

This initiative aims to establish a lasting tradition, growing stronger each year. Organizers have identified specific items that are most needed during the drive, including canned proteins like tuna and chicken, as well as hygiene products such as shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss. Donations can be dropped off at Legacy Hall, conveniently located between Mackay Stadium and Lawlor Events Center. By focusing on these critical items, the organizers hope to ensure that the most urgent needs are met efficiently.

The "Pack the Pantry" campaign exemplifies the power of collective effort and community support. It highlights the importance of addressing food insecurity not just as an individual responsibility but as a shared mission within educational institutions. Through initiatives like this, universities can play a pivotal role in creating environments where all members feel supported and empowered to succeed academically and personally.
