2025-02-01

The Yaquina Pacific Railroad Historical Society (YPRHS) in Toledo has recently unveiled an upgraded main access ramp at its museum, significantly enhancing visitor safety and accessibility. This project was made possible through financial support from Travel Oregon and Oregon Coast Bank. The new ramp now complies with ADA standards and features slip-resistant, durable grating, ensuring a safer experience for all guests. Visitors can enjoy the museum's exhibits, which are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., free of charge. Interactive displays, including locomotive cabs that allow visitors to imagine themselves as engineers, make this a family-friendly destination.

The renovation of the main access ramp represents a significant milestone for the YPRHS. For years, the organization has been dedicated to preserving the rich history of railroading in the region. With the assistance of generous sponsors, they have now taken a crucial step toward making their facilities more inclusive. The updated ramp not only meets modern safety regulations but also ensures that individuals with mobility challenges can fully engage with the museum's offerings. The non-slip grating material used in the construction provides long-lasting durability, reducing maintenance needs and ensuring continued safe access for years to come.

The Toledo Railroad Museum prides itself on being an educational hub where visitors can delve into the fascinating world of railroading. By stepping into the cab of one of the two locomotives on display, guests can gain a unique perspective on what it feels like to be an engineer. These hands-on experiences encourage learning through exploration and imagination, making the museum particularly appealing to younger visitors. In addition to these interactive exhibits, the museum houses a wealth of historical artifacts and information about the railroad's impact on local communities.

The completion of the access ramp renovation marks an important chapter in the museum's ongoing efforts to improve visitor experiences. By adhering to ADA guidelines and incorporating advanced materials, the YPRHS has set a new standard for accessibility in historical institutions. Families and individuals alike can now explore the museum's treasures with greater ease and confidence, knowing that every effort has been made to ensure their comfort and safety during their visit.
