The Bend Park and Recreation District has initiated the enrollment process for its popular Kids Inc. after-school care program, set to serve students for the 2025-26 academic year. Designed to support working families, this initiative caters to children from kindergarten through fifth grade at various schools across the district, with a few exceptions. Families have until May 16 to submit their applications to be considered in the initial selection phase. A randomized lottery system will determine placement and waiting list status, ensuring fairness in the allocation of spots.
In addition to full-time care, the program offers flexible part-time options tailored to meet diverse family needs. Participants in the part-time arrangement can choose between Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday schedules. These slots will also be assigned via the lottery process, but families may transition to full-time care as vacancies arise. The program operates daily until 5:30 p.m., providing a structured and supervised environment where children can relax, enjoy snacks, and engage in enriching activities after school hours.
Families are encouraged by the park district to explore alternative child development opportunities such as enrichment classes and sports programs if they do not require traditional daycare services. This approach aims to enhance the overall growth and well-being of children through varied experiences. By fostering an inclusive and supportive community, the Kids Inc. program underscores the importance of balanced childcare solutions that align with modern family lifestyles, promoting both academic success and personal development among young learners.
