Festival, this year marks its 24th anniversary of presenting Latin American traditions and influences to the local community. Originating three decades ago as a modest Cinco de Mayo celebration at a single restaurant, it has since evolved into one of the most prominent Hispanic heritage celebrations in the region, attracting attendees from across Virginia.

The festival organizer, Michel Zajur, originally hailing from Mexico City, expressed pride in offering the public a chance to immerse themselves in Latin American culture through cuisine and music. Zajur, also the founder of the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the festival's growth over the years, noting the need for expansion beyond Brown’s Island due to increasing popularity. Attendees enjoyed an array of offerings, including over a hundred vendors selling food, art, and merchandise, accompanied by lively performances throughout the day. Nikolas Johnson, a long-time resident familiar with Richmond's vibrancy, highlighted the unique atmosphere created by the festival, praising the partnerships that enhanced the experience, such as collaborations with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

This year’s festival aligns with the upcoming 25th anniversary of the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 2025, marking significant milestones in fostering Hispanic culture within Richmond. Zajur reflected on the transformation of the city’s demographic landscape, noting the thriving Hispanic community now present.
