A Celebration of Legacy: Supporting Families Through the Caleb's Prayer Foundation
2025-05-07

Established to honor the memory of a remarkable young man, this organization continues to make a profound difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. The Caleb's Prayer Foundation was created 11 years ago to commemorate Caleb Hoggins, who courageously fought cancer until the age of 15. Since then, it has been dedicated to offering financial aid to families in Kankakee and Iroquois counties grappling with the challenges brought on by cancer. To date, the foundation has provided over $104,000 in assistance for essential needs such as groceries, transportation, utility payments, housing, insurance coverage, medical expenses, and funeral costs.

An annual event serves as both a tribute and a fundraising effort for the cause. On Sunday, May 18th, Phillips Chevrolet in Bradley will host the 15th Annual Benefit Car Show. Last year, the show attracted 156 vehicles and drew hundreds of spectators eager to admire the diverse array of cars. Thanks to generous sponsors, more than $15,000 was raised for the foundation at the previous event. Since its inception in 2015, the car show alone has contributed $105,535 to the foundation’s mission. Registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by judging starting at 11 a.m., and trophy presentations at 3 p.m. Awards will be given across 18 categories, recognizing excellence in paint, interior design, engine craftsmanship, and overall presentation. Additionally, attendees can enjoy door prizes, raffles, and food for purchase. Admission is free for the public, encouraging everyone to come together in support of a noble cause.

Caleb’s legacy lives on through his inspiring story and unwavering spirit. Despite overcoming a rare form of leukemia in 2001, Caleb faced another diagnosis later in life. His journey came to an end on May 12, 2014, but his aspirations and passions endure. As a high school freshman, Caleb dreamed of becoming a chef and cherished activities like building Legos, listening to music from the '80s, and spending quality time with loved ones. Known for his laughter and compassionate nature, he touched countless lives. Events like the car show not only raise funds but also celebrate the enduring impact of individuals like Caleb, reminding us of the importance of community and resilience in the face of adversity.
