In a heartwarming display of generosity, the staff and families of Lake Michigan College have once again embraced the holiday season by providing essential food supplies to those in need. This year's event, which took place on December 17th, continued a long-standing tradition that has spanned four decades. With the help of approximately 30 dedicated volunteers, 50 carefully prepared baskets were distributed to various recipients, ensuring that the warmth of the holidays reached those who needed it most.

A Tradition of Giving Continues for the 41st Year

In the crisp winter air, the spirit of giving flourished as Lake Michigan College (LMC) carried forward its annual Holiday Food Basket initiative. For the 41st consecutive year, this compassionate effort brought together faculty, staff, and their families to assemble and deliver baskets filled with nourishing items to individuals and families facing challenging circumstances. The beneficiaries included 40 referrals from the Area Agency on Aging, five families supported by the Readiness Center, and five LMC students struggling with food insecurity. In a thoughtful gesture, households with pets also received treats for their furry companions, spreading joy throughout every corner of the community.

The baskets themselves were generously donated by HES Facilities Management, while the food contents were sourced through contributions from LMC employees and fundraising efforts led by the HFB Committee. Dr. Trevor Kubatzke, President of LMC, expressed pride in this embodiment of the college’s commitment to caring and community involvement.

This event serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of coming together during times of need. It highlights how small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in people's lives, fostering a sense of unity and compassion within the broader community.
