Empowering Voices: Celebration of Black Women in Arts and Culture
2025-03-22

An upcoming event aims to celebrate the achievements of Black women in the arts, bringing together creators and admirers alike. The Queens March Women’s History Month celebration on March 26 will honor three remarkable individuals who have made significant contributions to Charlotte's cultural landscape. Among them is Rubie Britt-Height, whose work as the director of community relations at the Mint Museum highlights her dedication to fostering connections through art.

This year's program features a dynamic mix of performances and artistic expressions hosted by the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. Local talents and students will present their creations, showcasing music, visual art, and three-dimensional works that reflect the influence and accomplishments of Black women in these fields. Additionally, select pieces by artists Annie Renee Harden, Princess Cureton, and Brenda Pinkston will be available for bidding in a silent auction. This vibrant showcase begins at 5 p.m., with tickets accessible online.

Jennifer Everett, the driving force behind Queens March, emphasizes the importance of recognizing and preserving the legacy of Black women. Since its inception, the event has evolved into a powerful platform where women from diverse creative backgrounds can connect and thrive. From private gallery tours to intimate performances, Everett envisions a world where all voices are heard and valued. In a time when historical narratives face challenges, this celebration serves as a reminder of the enduring impact Black women have had on society. Their contributions, whether through innovation or community building, cannot be erased and continue to inspire future generations.
