A recent update to Gboard has introduced a revamped version of the Emoji Kitchen, making it more accessible for users to explore an array of emoji combinations. This redesign, initially launched in December 2024 as part of Google’s final Pixel Drop of the year, is now broadly available to owners of Pixel phones and tablets. The new design simplifies navigation by replacing the previous gear icon with an arrow that leads users directly to a comprehensive list of emoji pairings.
Users who open Gboard may observe subtle changes when they tap on the smiley face emoji next to the space bar. A newly added arrow guides them to their Emoji Kitchen suggestions, enhancing usability. By selecting this arrow, individuals are directed to the "Browse" section, which displays a grid layout of diverse emoji combinations. Adjacent to the search field, users will notice house and clock icons. The clock facilitates access to recently used emojis, while the house icon serves as a return button to the main screen. Additionally, a floating action button (FAB) resides in the bottom right corner.
Tapping the FAB unveils the standard emoji picker interface. Here, users can choose an emoji and experiment with various combinations linked to their selected option. Furthermore, users gain insight into the specific emojis utilized in creating particular results simply by tapping on them. This feature enables direct sending of these custom emojis.
This updated Emoji Kitchen user interface remains exclusive to Pixel phones and tablets, meaning those utilizing Gboard on other Android devices won't have access to these enhancements. Therefore, Pixel device owners enjoy a more intuitive and engaging experience with their emoji selections.
The redesigned Emoji Kitchen not only improves accessibility but also enriches user interaction with emojis. Pixel device users now benefit from a streamlined browsing process and enhanced customization options within their messaging experiences.
