The 2025 Met Gala, themed around Black dandyism, showcased the sartorial brilliance of several Latinx stars. This prestigious event at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute brought together celebrities and fashionistas to honor a historical style that originated within the Black diaspora. The gala was co-chaired by prominent figures like Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, ASAP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Among the most dazzling looks were those from Domingo himself, Bad Bunny, Jenna Ortega, Maluma alongside Willy Chavarria, Tessa Thompson, and Cardi B, each paying homage to their cultural heritage through their outfits.
Colman Domingo, one of the co-chairs with roots in Belize and Guatemala, made a significant impact with two distinct appearances. His initial look featured a royal blue cape reminiscent of André Leon Talley, a legendary figure in fashion who passed away in 2022. This choice held deep personal significance for Domingo, as he shared with Access Hollywood, linking it to the first freed slaves' desire to celebrate freedom in fine attire and his mother's favorite color. Later, he transitioned into a Harlem Renaissance-inspired zoot suit, symbolizing self-definition and classic tailoring.
Bad Bunny dazzled in an all-brown custom Prada suit topped with a pava straw hat, nodding to his Puerto Rican identity. He expressed pride in this outfit crafted over months, highlighting elements inspired by Puerto Rican culture such as the sombrero and tie fabric. On another note, he also announced a major stadium tour starting in November across Latin America without U.S. dates yet.
Jenna Ortega, known for her role in "Wednesday," turned heads with a metallic dress entirely composed of rulers, crafted by Balmain. Representing couture craftsmanship, this innovative design sculpted her silhouette into a striking bustier gown. Meanwhile, Willy Chavarria walked the red carpet with Colombian singer Maluma in a vibrant bubblegum-pink Pachuco-style suit, encapsulating resistance beauty from the '30s and '40s era.
Tessa Thompson opted for a tuxedo dress paired with a top hat adorned with André Leon Talley's image, emphasizing dignity in Black fashion. Cardi B embraced both the Harlem Renaissance and Victorian eras in her shiny green ensemble designed by Daniel Lee, celebrating nonconformity while staying true to dandyism principles. Other notable Latinx attendees included Omar Apollo, Shakira, Zoe Saldaña, J Balvin with Valentina Ferrer, and Georgina Rodriguez, each contributing uniquely to this year’s theme.
This year's Met Gala not only celebrated Black dandyism but also highlighted the intersectionality between different cultures and styles. Each celebrity used their platform to express individuality and pay tribute to their backgrounds, making the night memorable through bold and creative fashion statements.
