Montana Set to Welcome Groundbreaking Film and Television Campus
2025-05-14

A groundbreaking initiative is set to transform the entertainment landscape in Montana. A consortium of experienced Broadway professionals and investors have announced plans to establish a 47-acre film and television production campus in Missoula. This ambitious project, located on the former Rosenberg property, aims to redefine local infrastructure for the entertainment industry. The official opening ceremony is scheduled to take place shortly.

This transformative venture represents Montana's first large-scale soundstage facility. It is designed not only to anchor the state's creative ambitions but also to foster the retention of local talent. According to Sean Patrick Higgins, CEO and collaborator of Story House, this endeavor will showcase a new era of sustainable and community-driven entertainment infrastructure. The campus will encompass an expansive 400,000 square-foot complex featuring five top-tier soundstages, post-production facilities, commercial workshops, and a distinctive Americana backlot. The project anticipates creating over 435 jobs with a hiring focus on veterans, Native Americans, and workers displaced from traditional industries.

The Studios @ Story House Montana envisions more than just building studios; it seeks to cultivate an entire ecosystem rooted in storytelling by those who understand the land best. James Brown III, president and chief creative officer of Story House, emphasizes the importance of providing opportunities for Montana’s artists to thrive without leaving home. In addition to filming two major productions this year, the company intends to collaborate closely with local and state leaders to ensure developments align with community needs, including potential workforce housing solutions. By establishing ties with the University of Montana, they aim to create a robust pipeline for in-state career growth within the film industry, ensuring that Montana's creative economy remains firmly rooted in its communities.

Missoula's potential as a hub for such projects has been recognized before, yet previous attempts faced challenges due to insufficient financial incentives at the state level. However, with successful precedents in Wyoming and strategic partnerships already established, Story House is poised to revolutionize Montana's media landscape while promoting inclusivity, sustainability, and local prosperity through their innovative approach.
