According to recent reports, Samsung is set to equip its next-generation foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, with the Exynos 2500 processor. This decision reportedly stems from cost considerations and improved production yields. The device, along with its more affordable counterpart, the Z Flip 7 FE, are expected to launch later this year. While the Z Flip 7 FE will likely use an Exynos 2400 series chip, the Z Flip 7’s choice of processor has been a topic of speculation until now. The report also indicates that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will not feature the Exynos 2500, opting instead for the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor.
A recent article from Chosun Biz highlights that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will incorporate the Exynos 2500 flagship processor. According to an unnamed source, the primary reason for choosing Exynos over Qualcomm lies in pricing advantages. With foldable phones having fewer shipments compared to the Galaxy S series, Samsung may find it advantageous to use Exynos chips in these devices. Production is expected to commence in May, with plans to manufacture 200,000 units by June.
The Exynos 2500 is anticipated to be a powerful piece of technology, featuring a deca-core CPU and an advanced Xclipse 950 GPU. This GPU is said to include AMD’s RDNA 3.5 technology and eight workgroup processors. Although the Snapdragon 8 Elite might outperform in single-core CPU capabilities, previous models using Exynos chips have demonstrated excellent battery life performance.
Despite earlier challenges with yield rates for the Exynos 2500, Samsung appears confident in its ability to stabilize production for lower-volume products like foldable phones. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to rely on the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, aligning with prior leaks suggesting similar configurations.
Samsung's Q1 2025 earnings statement further supports this trend, emphasizing steady revenue through SoC adoption for new flagship models. As the company continues to innovate, the upcoming release of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 promises exciting developments in foldable smartphone technology.
