2025-03-25

In an impressive start to the 2025 varsity baseball season, Western Michigan Christian Warriors swept Zion Christian in a doubleheader on Friday. The team showcased stellar pitching and powerful hitting, leading them to a decisive 10-0 win in the first game and a solid 7-2 victory in the second. Coach Darin Waller praised his team’s strong performances on both ends of the field.

Impressive Pitching and Hitting in Game One

The Warriors demonstrated their dominance right from the start with ace pitcher Max Miller delivering a flawless performance. His complete-game shutout included just two hits allowed and six strikeouts. Meanwhile, the offense was led by senior Alex Wagenmaker, who contributed significantly with two hits, one double, four RBIs, and a run scored. Teammates Nathan Clausing and Luke Maat also played pivotal roles, contributing multiple hits, runs, and RBIs.

Much of the success in the opening game can be attributed to Miller's masterful control on the mound as well as the explosive power at bat displayed by several key players. Senior Alex Wagenmaker set the tone early with his consistent contributions, driving in four crucial runs. Nathan Clausing added further momentum with a strong showing at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, and a scored run. Notably, Max Miller himself proved instrumental not only through his pitching but also by scoring three runs, doubling, and drawing walks twice. Captain Will Liggett provided additional support with a hit, a stolen base, and a run, while Jack Sipe delivered a timely RBI, walked twice, and scored once.

Continued Momentum in Game Two

Building on their initial triumph, the Warriors maintained their high-energy approach in the second match. Freshman Carson Reed made his varsity debut with a commendable effort, striking out five batters over four innings to secure the win. Quint Menefee and Caleb McKay added spark with their offensive plays, including steals and RBIs.

Carson Reed marked his varsity introduction impressively, demonstrating poise under pressure. In four innings pitched, he managed five strikeouts, providing stability that helped seal the victory. At the plate, Quint Menefee continued his impactful play with another RBI and scored a run, complemented by Caleb McKay’s aggressive baserunning, which included two stolen bases alongside an RBI and run scored. Alex Wagenmaker sustained his hot streak, adding yet another RBI in this contest. Jack Sipe remained effective, producing another RBI, walking, and scoring a run. Additional contributors like Levi Leffring and Noa Wyderveld bolstered the lineup with combined efforts resulting in three runs and two walks. Coach Waller expressed satisfaction with the team’s cohesive display of clutch hitting and strategic base-running throughout both games.
