Luar's Runway Show: A Captivating Fusion of Fashion, Beauty, and Cultural Influences
The energy was palpable backstage at Luar's spring/summer 2025 runway show, as a flurry of activity unfolded in a small room just below Rockefeller Plaza. Makeup artists, hairstylists, and nail technicians worked in a frenzy, creating bold and whimsical looks that perfectly captured the essence of the collection. From leopard-printed eyelids to scaly python leather eyebrows, the dynamic makeup designs expressed the powerful yet playful nature of Luar's designs, which sit at the intersection of fashion and culture, infused with a palpable degree of sexiness.Unleashing the Artistry of Luar's Runway Beauty
Captivating Makeup Artistry
Makeup artist Yadim Carranza drew inspiration from diverse sources, including "drag, punk, and different iconic subversive communities within the queer lexicon," as well as "many prominent Latin female archetypes," reflecting the brand's cultural influences. The bold eyebrow look, crafted from faux python leather fabric scraps, was a standout feature, with the brows slicked down using glue and concealed before the leather was applied. The leopard-print eye makeup was achieved through a unique screen-printing technique, transforming one of the distorted leopard-print patterns from the collection into a temporary tattoo. Completing the dramatic looks were long eyelashes, white eyeliner, and bold black lipstick.Innovative Hair Styling
Hairstylist Evanie Frausto continued the sculptural aesthetic from last year's Luar show, with a focus on creating a "glass hair" effect. Using TRESemmé products, including the Thermal Keratin Smooth weightless Fortifying Heat Protection Spray and Mega Hold Gel, Frausto crafted a reflective, almost wet-looking shine. Pristine stitch braids and ultra-straight, glossy hair were also featured, but the most artistic touch came from the resin-coated extensions, which Frausto twisted into literal works of art reminiscent of 1920s-era swooped styles.Nostalgic Nail Designs
Nail artist Naomi Yasuda tapped into the 90s for inspiration, creating long square nails with nostalgic designs. Chrome colors and dangling beaded appliqués completed the look, solidifying Luar's forward-thinking vision and the brand's ability to blend past and present in a captivating way.
