Clay County Medical Center Unveils Progress on Facility Expansion
2025-01-14

The Clay County Medical Center (CCMC) has shared updates on its ambitious construction project aimed at enhancing and expanding its facilities. Significant milestones have been achieved in the development of the new addition to Clay Center Family Physicians (CCFP). The exterior framing is progressing well, setting the stage for further construction phases. In the coming weeks, the focus will shift to enclosing the building, with roofing and exterior weatherproofing soon to follow. Additionally, improvements are being made to ensure better accessibility at the Emergency Department entrance, including the installation of an ADA-compliant ramp. CEO Austin Gillard expressed enthusiasm about these upgrades, emphasizing their importance in serving the community's current and future healthcare needs.

The expansion project at CCMC is rapidly taking shape, with visible progress evident in various stages of construction. One of the key achievements is the advancement of the structural framework for the new addition to CCFP. This crucial phase involves meticulous planning and execution to ensure a solid foundation for the forthcoming interior work. The installation of exterior sheathing is imminent, which will provide essential protection against the elements. Meanwhile, preparations are underway for wood blocking in window openings and parapet areas, paving the way for the upcoming roofing installation.

In the near future, efforts will concentrate on enclosing the building to prepare it for interior construction. This step is vital as it ensures the structure is adequately sealed and ready for subsequent phases. Roofing and exterior weatherproofing will commence, safeguarding the integrity of the building. Temporary walls will also be erected in the existing reception area to integrate the new addition seamlessly with the current facility. Interior framing for the new spaces will begin shortly, marking another significant milestone in the project.

Beyond the building expansion, considerable attention has been given to improving accessibility. Foundations for a new ADA-compliant ramp at the Emergency Department entrance have been laid, providing a more inclusive and convenient entryway for all patients and visitors. The next phase will involve completing the sidewalks and the ADA ramp, further enhancing accessibility. These enhancements reflect the medical center's commitment to accommodating everyone who seeks care.

Austin Gillard, CEO of Clay County Medical Center, conveyed his excitement about witnessing the vision for these facility upgrades becoming a reality. He highlighted that these projects not only improve the quality of care today but also position the center to meet the evolving needs of the community in the years ahead. The ongoing support and patience from the community during this transformative period were greatly appreciated by the leadership team.
