Community Comes Together in "Herb for Herb" Drive to Support Veterans
2025-04-15

A remarkable initiative has united a local marijuana dispensary and its patrons in an effort to assist those in need. Shangri-La dispensaries in Columbia and Jefferson City recently encouraged their clientele to contribute herbs, spices, and food items as part of a campaign benefiting the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri. This endeavor, aptly named the “Herb for Herb” drive, specifically aids the VIP Veteran Pack program, which provides essential monthly supplies to veterans. Through this collaborative effort, more than 1,111 pounds of food, spices, and herbs have been gathered so far, with collections ongoing until Sunday.

The generosity displayed by the community has exceeded expectations. The Columbia Superstore alone amassed 533 pounds of donations, while the Columbia South location contributed 237 pounds. In Jefferson City, participants brought forth 341 pounds of much-needed supplies. Clay Stem, the Food and Fund Drive Coordinator for the regional food bank, expressed heartfelt gratitude towards Shangri-La's efforts. He emphasized how these contributions significantly impact the lives of individuals served by the organization, highlighting the importance of such community-driven initiatives.

Acts of kindness and solidarity strengthen the bonds within any society. By fostering environments where businesses and their customers actively participate in charitable causes, we create pathways toward a more compassionate world. Shangri-La Dispensaries CEO Nevil Patel praised the overwhelming support from all participating locations, underscoring the shared commitment to giving back. Such endeavors not only fulfill immediate needs but also inspire others to engage in similar acts of generosity, ultimately building a brighter future for everyone involved.
